The new version brings many new features – including compatibility with WordPress 5.0 and the Gutenberg Editor. We have therefore made a WP OSM Plugin main release V5 with these new features for your site:
- Gutenberg editor compatibility
- Common workflow for Classic Editor and Gutenberg editor
- Around 200 new icons for markers in WP OSM Plugin
- Romanian translation for the plugin (thanks to Sorin Pop)
- HOT map (Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team)
- Implementation based on OpenLayers 5.3
- Higher accuracies at the mouse position (five decimal places)
- osm_map compatible with PHP 7.x
Undoubtedly, the introduction of the Gutenberg editor was the biggest change in WordPress in recent years. Many sites will not be able to follow these changes because, for example, a theme or a plugin is not compatible and will not be maintained anymore. This means that many pages will remain on WP Version 4.9 or continue working with the Classic Editor Plugin. With the WP OSM Plugin we want to support in the future those who continue to work with the Classic Editor as well as those who continue working with the Gutenberg Editor. That’s why the workflow for both is the same and the shortcode generator is also available in both versions.
Around 200 new icons
We got from Dash a big set with new icons for the WP OSM plugin. Around 200 icons now come with the version 5, there will be more in the coming versions. Dash also let us look a bit deeper and published a makingof article.
The osm_map shortcode and PHP 7.x
Many years ago, osm_map shortcode was replaced by osm_map_V3. But there are still many sites that are operated for different reasons with the old shortcode. Prof. Dr. Horst Kuni has made a few changes so that osm_map supports PHP 7 as well. In addition, he has also worked on tools for the processing of TXT and KML files, about this we will report. In German you can find all the details here.
HOT map (Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team)
With WP OSM Plugin support also HOT map with this version:
